It's Here. The Big One. And I've Already Seen How It Ends.

Ladies and gentlemen, gather round — the wait is OVER. Forty-eight teams, 104 matches, three countries, one trophy. The World Cup kicks off today in Mexico City, and I'm making my calls now, in writing, so there's a paper trail when I'm proved right.

The winner: Spain. I don't do fence-sitting, folks. La Roja are unbeaten in 31, cruised through qualifying, and have Yamal, Pedri and a midfield that passes teams into a gentle sleep. The bookies make them favourites, and for once the bookies and I agree — which should frighten everyone.

The dark horse: Japan. They've quietly beaten England, Brazil and Ghana since booking their ticket, they press like their lives depend on it, and nobody — nobody — wants them in the last 16. If you're after a wilder shout, Norway have Haaland, Ødegaard, and a point to prove after 28 years away. You heard it here first.

England? Group L with Croatia, Ghana and Panama — they'll stroll it, look magnificent for two rounds, then meet somebody serious. Tuchel's a winner and the squad's deep enough, so I'm calling semi-finals — where Spain end it, politely but firmly. Sixty years of hurt becomes sixty-and-counting. I take no pleasure in this. (Some pleasure.)

Scotland? First World Cup since 1998 and the draw gods handed them Brazil, Morocco and Haiti. Brutal. But this format gives the brave a way through — beat Haiti, nick something off Morocco, and I say they sneak into the round of 32 as a third-place team before going out in a blaze of glory and bagpipes. Honestly? Getting there at all after 28 years is the win.

Now — the important bits:

Set up your private league. Thirty seconds, one link, and you've got your group chat, your office and your in-laws locked into five weeks of beautiful needle. Don't be the one who "meant to set it up" on July 19th.

My predictions for the first 24 matches are live on the blog. Every scoreline, every call, zero hedging. Read them, laugh at them, then try to beat them.

The gauntlet is DOWN, folks. Can you beat Bo? It's Boom-Boom Bo football!
